Serbia PM Says Country Respects Dayton Peace Accords as Only Path to True Peace in Balkans

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated in Banja Luka that Republika Srpska is a reality that emerged as a need of the Serbian people to decide their own destiny, a reality defended in war and founded in the Dayton Peace Agreement.

At a ceremonial academy on the occasion of the Day of Republika Srpska, Macut emphasized that respect for the Dayton Agreement, in its letter and spirit, is the only path to a lasting peace and security in the region and that the reality is that Bosnia and Herzegovina is only possible as a state of two entities and three constituent peoples, in which there is no outvoting and no imposition of external influence.

The Prime Minister recalled that more than 30 years ago, the Dayton Agreement stopped the war, and that this agreement, in addition to bringing peace, set a framework in which it is only possible to build stability and trust.

The Prime Minister stated that Serbia and Republika Srpska are connected by history, culture and deep ties, and that Serbia will always stand by Republika Srpska and the people who live there.

He emphasized that this is support for the right to exist, the preservation of identity and respect for agreed international obligations, support for peace, stability and dialogue.

According to him, Serbia respects the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and at the same time strongly supports the constitutional rights of Republika Srpska within the framework of the Dayton Agreement.

Macut said that, on this day, with the deepest affection and gratitude, they paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and their families, we remember their heroic past, and with responsibility towards the victims, they look towards the future.
