
The Angelo State Rams Men’s basketball team continued to struggle against their Lone Star Conference foes, dropping another contest, this one to Central Oklahoma, 56-50.
Despite the loss, Jhordan Ryan turned in a herculean effort in his first career start for the Rams. The Montserratian played all 40 minutes and recorded the first double-double of his ASU career with 16 points and 11 rebounds. He was 7-for-8 from the field, blocked a pair of shots, and nabbed a steal.
Jordan Crawford joined Ryan in double figures with 12 points. The senior was responsible for the lone made three-pointer while assisting twice and recording a pair of steals.
Zyon Little fell shy of a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds in 34 minutes of action off the bench.
Kailon Nicholls scored six points and led the Rams with three assists.
Meanwhile, the Angelo State Rambelles found another win against Central Oklahoma with a career day by Majik Esquivel, who poured in a career-high 38 points to lead the Angelo State women’s basketball team to a 76-64 victory.
Angelo State led for 34 of the game’s 40 minutes despite shooting 37.7 percent from the field and 19 percent from 3-point range. The Rambelles made their first 24 free throws and finished the game shooting 86.7 percent at the line. ASU also overcame a 41-31 rebounding deficit by forcing 25 turnovers and converting them into 33 points.
Esquivel led all scorers and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal in the win.
Taylor Grona followed with 15 points while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. She also recorded four steals and two assists. Landry Morrow added nine points and dished out a team-high three assists.
Tristin Keller, Kenna Wood and Briley Merket combined to score the Belles’ remaining 14 points.
